Responsibility

Dane Cook, is looking to hire a research scientist with training and first-hand experience in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of psychobiological data (e.g., metabolic, autonomic, and neuroimaging data). In addition, this hire will be involved in the finalizing and execution of data collection methods for another VA-funded project designed to explore the influence of neuroinflammation on symptoms in veterans with Long COVID. The general duties for this position will include, identifying research problems, designing research methodologies, performing and supervising research, and preparing and presenting results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications. This position may also supervise staff. 20% Identifies research problems and develops highly complex research methodologies and procedures. Publishes and presents results to help advance research. 20% Collects and analyzes highly complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures. 5% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials and, disseminates information to appropriate entities. 10% Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information. 15% Identifies, writes, or assists in developing grant opportunities, grant applications, and proposals to secure research funding. 15% May supervise the day-to-day activities of a research unit and staff and resolve routine personnel issues. 10% Serves as an institutional subject matter expert and liaison with key internal and external stakeholders providing expert level information and representing the interests of a specialized research area. 5% Monitors program budget and approves unit expenditures

    Job Summary: The Exercise Psychology Laboratory, under the direction of Prof. Dane Cook, is looking to hire a research scientist with training and first-hand experience in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of psychobiological data (e.g., metabolic, autonomic, and neuroimaging data). This position involves collaboration with an established human subjects research team in the Department of Kinesiology in association with the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. The successful candidate will be asked to lead efforts to process and analyze various psychobiological datasets collected during two VA-funded research projects exploring the relationship between physical exercise and symptomology in veterans of the Persian Gulf War. Both projects have been designed to elucidate the possible mechanisms and identify potential treatments for debilitating conditions disproportionally affecting Gulf War veterans. In addition, this hire will be involved in the finalizing and execution of data collection methods for another VA-funded project designed to explore the influence of neuroinflammation on symptoms in veterans with Long COVID.
