Responsibility
The Registered Nurse is responsible for clinical assessment, triage and nursing care for students receiving care at the University of Miami Student Health Service. In addition to providing direct patient care, responsibilities include supervising triage staff, performing nursing support functions and representing the triage area in interactions with other clinic supervisors and staff. The successful candidate will be able to create and maintain an environment of patient-focused care, anticipating and appropriately responding to student needs and ensuring that the student’s overall experience meets or exceeds standards of medical care. Monitor patients including patient verification, visit reason, recording vital signs and reviewing immunization compliance. Work with other triage staff to perform clinical support services including EKG, vision screening, ear lavage, wound care, glucose monitoring, nebulizer treatments, spirometry, pulse oximetry, IV insertion and oxygen administration. Respond to and assist with urgencies and emergencies, seeking assistance from medical providers and other as appropriate. Administer injections including immunizations, allergy injections, medications and PPD testing. Assist medical providers during procedures including suture and removal, I&D and gynecologic examinations. Participates in patient education and campus outreach programs including seasonal flu and medical student PPD campaigns. Assist with qualify review initiatives including follow-up of abnormal pap and others testing, follow-up of on-call answering service encounters, ER referrals and SACC reports. Performs CLIA waived testing (strep, flu, urine) during off peak times. Adapts to changing work demands and environment. Operates the appropriate medical equipment. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
