Responsibility

This position performs advanced confidential administrative duties. Responsibilities include screening phone calls, emails, and visitors to resolve inquiries; scheduling appointments and meetings and assisting with daily exam proctoring services for students with disabilities. This position will be expected to maintain records and scan documentation regularly into the database management system. This position will keep track of staff schedules, schedule meetings, and reserve meeting space. Serve as the first point of contact for SDAC and Student Health & Wellness services to UVA students, prospective students, families, faculty, and staff. Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills. Explain and answer general questions about SDAC procedures and processes over the phone, via e-mail and in person. Assist in supervising student staff and managing student staff schedule. Train student staff in office procedures and processes. Scan documentation into database management system in a timely manner. Ensure that documentation is appropriately relayed to SDAC Advisor, and originals are disposed of in a confidential manner. Schedule exams as needed. Check students in and out of exams. Maintain integrity of exam proctoring protocol. Ensure return of exams to faculty upon completion. Keep students informed of deadlines for requesting accommodations and deadlines for scheduling exam proctoring services. Schedule appointments, monitor staff schedules, and schedule space for meetings. Maintain a cohesive office filing system for general forms and supplies. Stock supplies as needed to keep communal office equipment in functioning order (i.e., copier, printers, etc.). Facilitate communication with facilities manager to help maintain a safe, clean, and effective environment. Provide appropriate referral information about University and community resources. Provide backup support for notetaking and alternative text production. Collaborate with Assistant Director or Director if questions or problems arise that are beyond scope and training. Collaborate with SDAC staff in larger mission of collaborating with and educating University faculty, deans, administrators, families, and students about disability issues and learning support systems at UVa. Other duties as assigned. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs

The Student Disability Access Center (SDAC) at the University of Virginia strives to build an equitable academic experience for students with disabilities and provide creative and effective solutions to any physical, digital, and attitudinal barriers. SDAC works to empower students with disabilities by taking a proactive approach to providing accommodations, working relationships with faculty, educational workshops, assistive technology, and collaboration across the university community. SDAC is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as an Administrative Assistant. This position performs advanced confidential administrative duties. The successful candidate will pass a background check and health/drug screen. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $18-20/hour. This is a full-time, overtime eligible position with UVa benefits.
