The Robert Louis Stevenson School's mission is to promote the emotional mastery needed for learning and living, bringing students into a strong academic and therapeutic environment and propelling them towards postsecondary independence and success. The program provides every student individually formulated support in a structured and respectful environment. Stevenson teaches students how to succeed and prepares them to meet the challenges of postsecondary education and everyday life. Position Stevenson is seeking a full-time Science teacher for the 2024-25 school year. The position’s main components include designing and implementing Chemistry and other Science courses, as well as serving as a back-up advisor. Filling this position will also support professional development while immersed in Stevenson's therapeutic program. Core Responsibilities • Envision, design, and implement Science courses, including, but not limited to, Chemistry and Earth Science • Base curricular and instructional decisions on knowledge of differentiation and a deep understanding of individual learner profiles • Consider and actively seek colleague input and new understandings of students, particularly related to emotional complexity • Maintain clear, purposeful records of class plans and student performance • For teaching and advising, work closely with our Counseling Center to propel a therapeutic approach • Work as part of a cooperative and diverse team of educators and administrators • Continue intellectual and professional development Qualifications • Commitment to Stevenson's mission • Strong background in related field(s), including at least 2+ years successful, relevant High School or Middle School teaching experience • Comfort designing and teaching varied Science courses • Excellent written and verbal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues • Teaching certification in any state (NY not required) • Master’s in education preferred • Interest in support and feedback from other teachers, supervisors, and other staff • Ability to work confidentially with discretion and maintain ethical teacher-student boundaries • Humor, patience, poise, and an ability to purposefully balance structure and flexibility Salary: Annual salary range of $65,000-90,000 The Robert Louis Stevenson School provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, height, or weight.
