Responsibility
Under direct supervision, provides sub-professional dental work assisting dentist in the care and treatment of dental patients. Functions both as dental chair and office assistant. Assists the Dental Chair by passing instruments, preparing compounds, and assisting with taking x-rays and impressions. Assists with office functions by scheduling appointments and preparing patient records. Provides chair side assistance to the dentist in the examination & treatment of Pedodontics, Endodontics, Prosthetics, Oral Surgery, & other dental procedures. Seats patients immediately, reviews Health History, takes x-rays with good visibility and contrast, expected to have dental set-up ready when dentist enters room, performs special treatment procedures, organizes and has operatory stocked with needed dental instruments & materials. Sterilizes all dental instruments, handpieces, and counter-tops, & operatory's. Cares for Dental Equipment according to manufactures directions. Follows guidelines of hospital policy for infection control. Scheduling and Office Tasks. Schedules patients for re-visit appointments. Maintains patient records and indicates the type of work done. Reviews patient record to determine the instruments needed by the Dentist. Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications. Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patient’s care
