About the position The Computer Scientist position at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) involves providing expert advice and leadership in the development and maintenance of advanced information systems. The role includes conducting complex research and analysis, representing the IRS at professional meetings, and collaborating with international experts to shape IT policies. This position is critical for ensuring the security and efficiency of the IRS's information technology infrastructure. Responsibilities • Advise on complex issues related to security research, acquisition, design, development, and maintenance of information systems. , • Represent the IRS at professional meetings and conferences, consulting with senior staff and IT specialists. , • Provide leadership in the design and development of major prototype systems and modifications to existing systems. , • Conduct research in areas such as artificial intelligence and its applications in solving complex problems. , • Collaborate with international experts to develop IT policies and represent the IRS in national and international technical committees. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field with at least 30 semester hours in mathematics, statistics, and computer science, including differential and integral calculus. , • Specialized experience at the GS-14 level, including competence in computer system architecture, system software organization, and information structure transformation. , • Experience in leading projects for the design, acquisition, and implementation of information systems. Nice-to-haves • Experience in Infrastructure Engineering and Design. , • Knowledge of relevant mathematical and statistical sciences.
