Responsibility
The Biological Science Technician position involves conducting laboratory and field research related to biological samples, particularly focusing on molecular biology and microbiology. The role includes maintaining laboratory inventory, performing DNA extractions, culturing microbes, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. The technician will also prepare reports and analyze scientific data, contributing to research projects and publications. Maintains inventory of molecular reagents, culture media, chemicals, and stock solutions. Performs DNA extractions from insects, soil, microorganisms, and PCR reactions. Cultures, isolates, and characterizes microbes from various biological samples. Ensures laboratory adherence to safety and biosafety policies. Prepares reports summarizing research progress and documents findings for manuscripts. Keeps detailed records of experimental data and analyzes scientific data using bioinformatic software. Maintains fire ant colonies and handles ants during experiments and field collections. Maintains, calibrates, and modifies specialized equipment used for biological testing
