Responsibility

The position of an Imaging Scientist is a key role, as they will play a central part in delivering the imaging strategy and for ensuring clinical robustness of experimental plans, developing novel imaging studies for respiratory and immunological diseases and analysing imaging data. With the experiment imaging team and head of experimental imaging, implement the early R&I imaging strategy. Design and deliver novel experimental imaging studies that provide critical insights into the role of clinical imaging in the development of novel respiratory and immunology therapeutics. Develop and lead clinical imaging collaborations with key external partners that provide insights into disease mechanisms, patient selection, precision medicine strategies and clinical endpoints. Perform/develop novel quantitative image analysis on imaging datasets using radiomic and/or AI approaches. Provide scientific leadership in the field of imaging with innovative design, execution, and interpretation of experimental imaging trials. Identify and work with image analysis companies to provide key experimental data. Fully catalogue R&I legacy imaging studies, maximising imaging data acquisition and insights. Maintains a high degree of understanding and awareness of new and emerging imaging modalities and techniques. Works as member of Experimental Medicine Team to deliver departmental vision, strategy and goals. Makes AZ scientifically visible by publishing scientific papers and presenting data at conferences. The Respiratory and Immunology (R&I) Translational Science and Experimental Medicine (TSEM) department is an agile environment, with a culture that is science and patient-focused. Our mission is to understand disease mechanisms at the molecular level, identify the most effective target and the right patient population, and close the gap between bench science and bedside clinical practice. Within R&I, a new clinical imaging strategy has been established with the aim of developing and validating novel imaging techniques that can be employed in clinical trials to deliver life-changing medication. TSEM will be central in delivering this strategy and so we are expanding our experimental imaging team. This requires an individual with strong communication, imaging data analysis and computational skills as well as the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders in TSEM, clinical development, and other functions within AstraZeneca, and to work effectively with external academic collaborators.
